Troubleshooting |
For more up-to-date versions of this Troubleshooting guide, see the FAQ section on www.samurize.com. |
1. I keep receiving Exception Errors when trying to launch the Config Editor or when trying to add an Active Script Meter. |
Download and install this ActiveScript Component Update from the Microsoft site. |
2. Some PerfMons are missing when trying to add a PerfMon counter, or a PerfMon counter stops functioning. |
This happens when a PerfMon crashes. Windows
disables the offending PerfMon and keeps it disabled, even if you reboot.
To view the list of PerfMons available on your system and enable/disable any of them, you need the exctrlst.exe tool from the Win2k resource kit. Download exctrlst.exe here. It works on both Win2k and WinXP systems. Simply close the Client before using it, enable missing PerfMons, and then re-load the Client. |
3. Does Samurize support Windows 95/98/ME? (i.e. why am I missing the PDH.dll file?) |
Unfortunately Samurize uses the Windows Performance Counters to gather most of its data, which do not exist in Windows 9X and Millennium Edition. Also, Windows 9X does not support alpha blending which is needed for Samurize in its current state. |
4. How much memory does Samurize use? My configuration is using over 15MB! |
Normally it should take about 3-4 megabytes of memory. My guess is that you are using Active Scripts. This is not the fault of Samurize, Microsoft's runtimes-libraries use a lot memory. So if you want it to take less memory, skip the Active Scripts. |
5. I'm on DSL via PPPoE and the upload/download speeds aren't working. What's wrong? |
If you want UL/DL speeds of a DSL (via PPPoE) you must select the RAS-port Performance Object in perfmon and then number of Bytes/sec instead of selecting the NetworkInterface Performance Object - even though the DSL connection is on a NIC. |
6. I get this error: "Microsoft ActiveX Script Control create failed". How do I fix this? |
Download and install the windows script control from here. You may have to change the language to download the file needed for your system. |
7. Why do some key combinations for hotkeys not work correctly? |
It's not really a bug, just the way Windows works: Some key combinations can be registered, but can't be invoked. You should avoid Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, Pause, and Print Screen - especially in combination with the Ctrl modifier. |
8. My WMI meters and perfmon can't monitor other computers. |
Do the following:Start -> Run -> secpol.mscNavigate to: Local Policies : Security OptionsIn there look for: Network Access: Sharing and security model for local accounts.Chances are that's set to Guest Only. Set it to "Classic - local users authenticate as themselves" and you should be back in business! |
